A Wexford fighter is on the right track…
Muay Thai is growing across Ireland. For those of you that are unaware, it is a Thai martial art and full-contact combat sport that uses stand-up striking, sweeps, and various clinching techniques.
Wexford Muay Thai fighter, John McGee, fought Limerick’s Sean English in Cork over the weekend, on April 7th.
Speaking after his win over Sean English in Cork, Big Bad John stated:
“Enough chaos unfolds inside the ring, there’s absolutely no need to drag any of it with you back through them ropes!
I had the pleasure of testing myself against the undefeated heavyweight giant Sean English, a legit beast who I cannot wait to see back in action alongside the rest of the gentlemen of Eastside Limerick!
Blessed to have such a beautiful circle of people around me who help me keep my chin up even when my neck doesn’t feel strong enough to do so. God bless this little life,” he said.

Although the sport is growing, there is only one Muay Thai gym in Wexford. John fights out of Valhalla, which is Wexford’s only Muay Thai and K-1 kickboxing gym.
The Wexford-based fighter is next booked in to take on English-man Wayne O’Neill in Torquay in England. This will be John’s first professional Muay Thai fight.
We recently caught up with John McGee to discuss his preparation for the fight, along with the great things his gym is doing in the Muay Thai scene.
