New study reveals that Wexford is Ireland’s sunshine capital for solar energy

Energia, a leading provider of renewable energy solutions, has conducted an extensive analysis of sunlight hours across the twenty-six counties in Ireland, shedding light on the optimal locations for solar energy…

These are Ireland’s best locations for solar panel installation if you want to reduce your energy consumption and your carbon footprint.

The top five counties in Ireland with the highest average number of sunlight hours include:

Wexford takes the crown as Ireland’s best county to install solar panels, soaking up a massive 1358.76 sunlight hours annually. January, April, May, and August combined, is when the sun shines the most compared to the other counties. This makes it an ideal location for anyone looking to make the move to solar.

Taking the second spot, Waterford hits the jackpot with an impressive annual total of 1349.88 sunlight hours. The sunniest months in Waterford are February and March, making it a promising location for renewable energy enthusiasts. But even during the rainy days, the solar panels continue to work effectively, ensuring consistent energy production.

Wicklow known as the “Garden of Ireland” grabs the third spot, with a yearly total of 1345.44 sunlight hours. September and December are when the sun shines the brightest compared to other counties, which is wonderful as you will not have to worry about running out of energy when the days get shorter. You can take full advantage of the clear, crisp winter days and generate your own energy.

Cork ranks in fourth place, with an annual total of 1325.88 sunlight hours. County Cork receives the most sunshine in October (210.8 hours) and November (182.4 hours), offering favourable conditions for solar energy. County Clare rounds off the top five, with its total of 1305.12 sunlight hours annually, with June being the highest sunlight concentration of 421.8 hours.

Kerry has the least amount of sunshine. Compared to other counties, Kerry only receives 1231.68 hours of sunlight per year. The months with the least amount of daylight are March, April, May, August, September, and November. Laois is ranked second since it only receives 1255.08 hours of sunlight annually. Kildare is not far behind, with only 1259.76 hours of sunshine annually.

Energia’s analysis sheds light on the best locations for solar energy in Ireland, with Wexford emerging as the prime spot for solar panel installation, highlighting an impressive 1358.76 sunlight hours annually. This makes it an ideal choice for those considering solar Waterford, Wicklow, Cork, and Sligo also rank high, showcasing Ireland’s rich potential for renewable energy. Even regions with less sunlight like Kerry, Laois, and Kildare can benefit from solar power as the sun still seeps through the clouds.

Robert Stringer from Energia’s Solar team says:

“Electricity generated by the solar PV system produces less carbon emissions per unit of electricity than electricity imported from the grid. Plus, electricity generated by your solar PV system can be exported back to the grid and you will receive a payment for each unit exported. Energia currently offers a CEG rate of 0.24c, one of the highest rates available. In addition, a solar PV system adds value to your home, as well as improving the BER rating. A higher BER opens up access to lower-cost green financing for mortgages and home loans.”
