Five Wexford hurlers named on GAA’s hurling team of the week

Wexford easily dispatched Laois in the preliminary All-Ireland quarter-final over the weekend…

They defeated the O’Moore County by 0-32 to 0-20 in Portlaoise on Saturday. Following the performance, five Wexford players were named on the GAA.ie Team of the Week.

The whole half-back line is made up of three Wexford hurlers, which include Simon Donohoe, Damien Reck, and Conor Hearne. Hearne is Wexford’s midfielder, but after last week’s performance, they needed to put him in there somewhere. Wexford fans will be delighted to see that Simon Donohoe has regained some form too.

In attack, captain Lee Chin has been named in the wing-forward line, while Conor McDonald, who scored five points from play against Laois and was unlucky not to score a goal, has been named as the full-forward. Eleven years on from making his debut against the same opposition as next weekend’s opponents, it’s great to see the Naomh Eanna man in excellent form once again for the Model County.

Although it’s great to achieve individual accolades like this, it won’t bother the Wexford players either. Their full attention now swiftly turns to an All-Ireland quarter-final clash against Clare.
