Wexford trainer Paul Nolan sends two runners to Day One of Irish Derby Festival

Wexford trainer Paul Nolan will be hoping to strike gold at the Curragh on Friday…

The Wexford trainer will send two runners to the outskirts of Dublin for day one of the Irish Derby Festival.

Nolan had seven winners from 34 runners over the Jumps in Ireland during the last campaign and has also trained a second-place finisher during the summer Jumps season, with Tyson running on well to finish second in a Roscommon maiden hurdle on June 10.

Day one of the Irish Derby Festival arrives on Friday, where BoyleSports will be offering the latest Irish Derby odds, and Nolan has two horses runners slated to head to the Curragh, including two in the card-closing Apprentice Derby Handicap.

Up first for Nolan will be the Stayers Handicap at 7.15 on Friday where Palaman holds an entry. The four-year-old is in good nick as well with a win in a Cork maiden hurdle last time out on May 11, following up a second place finish at Limerick three weeks previously – both times ridden by Wexford jockey Sean Flanagan.

Palaman also holds an entry in the card closer alongside Metamorpheus at 8.25 on day one, who arrives off a decent fifth in a Listowel handicap earlier this month and is another with some good form behind him.

Palaman holds arguably some of the better form in the race among the current entrants owing to that Cork win, with the Joseph O’Brien-trained Carlo Bianconi likely to provide the biggest challenge to Nolan’s runner.
