A brand new event called Rí Rá Festival of Children’s Arts, takes place from the 26th to the 28th of July 2024 in Wexford…
The aim of Rí Rá Festival of Children’s Arts is to provide new, high quality arts experiences for all children in Co. Wexford, especially in the field of contemporary circus. The artistic ambition of the festival is to bring high quality shows which speak to and inspire children and to provide high quality artistic workshops that give children a chance to explore creative risk, featuring performances and workshops that have not been seen in Wexford.
The 2024 theme is creative risk taking and resilience. Each event that is attended as part of the Festival will open people’s eyes in a new way to ambitious art, to see that everyone can try it and that there is no such thing as failing!
Rí Rá Festival of Children’s Arts was founded in 2024 by two families, Fadi & Juliet Zmorrod of Doulab, Laura Larkin & James Blake. Along with their children and with the help of the Rí Rá Festival Children’s Panel, they have brought their creative minds together to develop this brand new and exciting offering to County Wexford.
Highlight events are a daring tightwire show by Italian artists Compagnia Autoportante in Wexford Town and Enniscorthy and a very clever magical children’s show featuring dance, acrobatics and balloons by Monica Munoz – ‘Fall and Float’ in the Opera House. Argentinian circus company A Tope will also perform the jaw-dropping SHHH…! in the Presentation Arts Centre.
There are also creative theatre and environmental visual art workshops happening in Blackbird Culture Lab, family circus workshops for all ages, creative dance for toddlers and babies in Wexford Arts Centre, a recycled juggling workshop in FDYS Enniscorthy and much more! Rí Rá Festival of Children’s Arts is funded primarily by the Arts Council of Ireland and Creative Places Enniscorthy.
