We all have some excellent and fond memories from our travels…
That’s certainly the case for Mona Delaney now. Now living in Gran Canaria, Mona has recalled a blast of a time that she shared with the Wexford hurling team of 1987.
“I was on holidays a couple of weeks ago and I watched the All-Ireland hurling final. It put me thinking about years ago when I sang the Old Shillelagh around 1987. A Wexford GAA hurling team came on holidays to Gran Canaria and they spent their whole holiday (at night) in the Old Shillelagh,” she recalls.
They had an excellent time together, and Mona was given a parting gift by the then captain of the team. She was given a signed hurl. Now, 37 years later, she wants to see if any of the players remember their nights out together.
“Before they left, the captain of the team gave me a signed hurley in thanks for the great time they had with us. I am going to post some photos of the hurl and I would love to see if any of you remember the day. Mona is my name and I sang every night. We had great memories and the hurley is still going strong,” she said.
On first glance of the pictures, it looks like it could have been the St Martins hurling team.
