Preview and tips ahead of Friday’s race meeting at Wexford racecourse

Wexford Racecourse hosts its second meeting of this week on Friday with a seven-race offering hot on the heels of Wednesday’s card…

Racing gets underway at 4.55pm on Friday with a maiden hurdle before rounding off at 8.25pm as a big field of 17 tackle the extended two-mile bumper.

Read below to discover the latest tips for Wexford’s card on Friday courtesy of BoyleSports, who offer the latest horse racing odds throughout the season.

The opener (4.55) sees a field of 14 head to post for the maiden hurdle over the extended two-mile trip for horses aged five and older. Sunchart looks to be the pick of the bunch here for trainer Adrian Slattery, a winner on the Flat and second in a novice hurdle at this course a fortnight ago. Of his rivals, Jackson Lamb on hurdles debut for trainer John McConnell is one to watch having finished first and second in bumpers before heading over the obstacles for the first time here.

Another field of 14 are set to head to the start for race two on the Wexford card (5.30) and the powerful Henry De Bromhead and Rachael Blackmore combination team up on Bobbi Gin Tree, a creditable second of ten at Sligo last time out and is switched to handicaps here for the first time. Another runner to take note of could be Bayou Belle, a good second of 13 at this track in a handicap hurdle last month.

An 80-116 rated handicap hurdles marks race three of the evening (6.05) and ten runners are set to tackle the extended two-mile trip. Preference here heads to Belgoprince, who narrowly missed out at Sligo two starts back before a midfield finish in a class two contest at Newcastle last time around. Morepowertoya, trained by Paul Power, could go well with a line drawn through his last run when he lost a shoe and at Wexford, has the eye-catching booking of reigning champion jockey Jack Kennedy to boost his chances.

Division one of the 80-95 rated handicap hurdle over three miles is race four on the card (6.40) with Kilmurry Jj the one to beat switching from chasing to hurdles having been a daily useful winner in this sphere in a previous life, while division two of the same discipline (7.15) can go the way of Georgia Celena, a good fourth in a Downpatrick handicap hurdle last time out who is expected to come on well for that run.

The penultimate race on Wexford’s Friday card sees 14 runners head to post for the two mile and four furlong handicap hurdle (7.50) for horses rated between 80 and 102. The Eoin McCarthy-trained Moyvilla Lass won with plenty in hand when scoring in a handicap hurdle at Killarney last time and expected to defy an 8lb rise here and follow up.

Finally, the card comes to a close with the mares bumper to bring the curtain down on the racing week at the track as 14 mares take on the extended two-miles around Wexford (8.25), with preference in the finale heading to Hey Sunshine, who was a promising second on racecourse debut at Roscommon last month and can go one better here for powerhouse trainer Willie Mullins, who is always worth backing in card closing bumpers.
