A Wexford FC player has secured a transfer across the pond…
Ellen Molloy, who played her football with the Wexford FC Women’s team, has secured a transfer over to an English football club.
Molloy, aged just 20, who hails from Kilkenny, is considered one of the brightest sparks in Irish football. She was named the Women’s National League Young Player of the Year at the end of her debut season.
The club that has secured her signature is Sheffield United.
Wexford FC confirmed her departure in a statement released on Friday afternoon and wished her all the best with her new club in England:
“Wexford FC Women can confirm that Ellen Molloy has completed her move to FA Women’s Championship side Sheffield United. Everyone at the club would like to wish Ellen the very best of luck with this exciting new chapter in her career,” they said.

Speaking on her announcement with Sheffield United, Ellen said:
“I’m delighted, I can’t really believe it to be honest. I love the city, I got a really good feel for the club and everyone involved so I’m really excited to get started.”
There’s no doubt that Ellen has left Wexford FC on a high. She played with Wexford FC for the last five seasons. During her time in Wexford, she played played 90 games, scoring 47 goals.
Ellen isn’t the only Wexford FC player to secure a transfer to a big club in recent times. Just last month, young Wexford footballer Oisin McDonagh secured a move abroad to an Italian Serie A side.
