A Wexford non-profit organisation has decided to close it’s doors…
Cheep & Cheerful, which is based on Barrack Street in Wexford town, has announced that it is closing down after just five months in business.
The store premises will remain open temporarily, continuing to welcome customers before their eventual closure. Their reason for closing the store premises is due to the fact that they are unable to make a promised monthly donation and that overall, with rent and the rising cost of utilities, the non-profit organisation was no longer sustainable.
“A big decision made this week for our crew – due to rising cost of living – business has quietened down considerably – we are making rent and utilities – but we are struggling to make the monthly donation at promised to Wexford People Helping People the past 3 months. None of draw a wage it is all voluntary work. We have made the difficult decision to close our thrift shop and our bike shop.”
Although Cheap & Cheerful may be closing their store premises, they insisted that they will re-structure their business model and will create an online store:
“We will be moving to online sales for bikes for the moment and we will be restructuring the business in a new way to be more cost effective so we can still provide support to charitable causes,” they said.
Cheap & Cheerful are currently holding a massive closing down sale, where everything must go. There are offers on footwear starting from just 20 cent and shoppers have been encouraged to “make an offer on anything – and if it’s fair, you can take it”. The premises will remain open until all stock is cleared.
Although it may be the end of the chapter for Cheap & Cheerful, it is not the end of the story:
“Thank you so much for your continued support – this isn’t a goodbye – it’s a change of pace – something that makes good business sense given the current economy,” they said.
