An action point analysis of Charlie Tector’s display for Leinster against Edinburgh

Wexford native Charlie Tector produced an outstanding try-scoring performance for Leinster in a classic against Edinburgh away on Friday night…

It was a memorable first start for him and one. It was one where he has excited Leinster fans and all of us here in Wexford as to the potential of the young man in the number 12 shirt in future games. Both in defence and attack, he was simply sublime.

First u, Charlie enjoyed a big hit on Edinburgh’s no.8 Ben Muncaster to ease himself into the match in what was a pre-planned move to target the young man.

The Wexfordian was really getting stuck in early on, with some good rucking and two solid carries taking two Scotsmen to take him down each in great battling surges.

Soon after, he had a fantastic rumble up the middle off a lineout move causing chaos in defensive lines.

Tector then caught a lovely ball and went on another short rampage, making the hard yards.

Charlie produced nice silky hands to set up Leinsters first try for Tommy O’Brien.

The Rathnure man later soared through the air to catch a big ball from a dodgy but dangerous box kick from Ally Price, leaping above an Edinburgh second row to sprint through a massive void in the home defence. He cheekily sent Price “for a hotdog” with a beautiful dummy, calmy ghosting through to score near the posts for a classy try.

With a fair amount of Blackstairs granite, he was back on tackling duty with another two fine hits from the Wexford man.

Tector was almost in for a second try off a neat Sam Prendergast chip kick, but he was tackled short after a nice catch and run.

He was again tackled short again minutes later.

The Wexford man started the second half with a nice carry. Shortly after, with Leinster hammering away at the Edinburgh line, Tector ran and unbelievable line, narrowing the home defence and then he slipped a magic little pass out the back for Leinster to stroll over for a beautifully worked try.

At this point, I’d also like to mention Brian Deeny – a Wexford Wanderer who came on – at the 50th minute mark and also put in a solid shift, where he was rucking, tackling and mauling well in his thirty minutes on the field.

Charlie later set up a fantastic sizzling Leinster attack down the wing with a fizzing pass off his right. He then made two lovely tackles, always being aware he was offside or out of the game after his tackles.

Later, he produced a piercing pass to kick start another Leinster attack.

The Rathnure man left his best defensive play until last though, showing intent, courage and doggedness after an attempted drop goal by Ben Healy. His determination got its reward with a fantastic block down which led Edinburgh to lose forty metres and then the ball. It showed huge commitment to the cause, in a fabulous effort for his team.

It was indeed a mighty performance from the Blackstairs man and there’s no doubt that all of us here in Wexford are really looking forward to Charlie’s next game at inside centre for Leinster after his brilliant display against Edinburgh.
