Wexford GAA cancel Sunday’s Wexford Senior Football Championship quarter-finals

Wexford GAA have made the decision to “cancel” the Wexford Senior Football Championship quarter-finals….

Wexford GAA have made the decision to postpone all adult Senior and Intermediate fixtures for Sunday due to the impending bad weather and the Status Orange weather warning issued by the Irish weather forecaster, Met Eireann.

The county of Wexford will be under a Status Orange weather warning from 1pm Sunday to Sunday at midnight.

Wexford GAA have stated that the remaining quarter-finals of the Wexford SFC have been rescheduled to take place on Monday evening.

The teams impacted by the postponement include: Naomh Eanna, Crossabeg, Gusserane and Kilanerin. Castletown take on Sarsfields on Saturday, while Glynn-Barntown’s comeback against reigning champions Shelmaliers seen them power through to the semi-finals, having took place on Friday night at Wexford Park.

Although some pitches may be unplayable even on Monday evening, Wexford GAA have decided that this remains the best option – as to allow for the clubs to compete in the Leinster and All-Ireland Club championships.

They issued the below notice to all clubs on Saturday afternoon.

Wexford, along with other counties, was originally under a Status Yellow warning.

However, Wexford is now under a Status Orange weather warning from 1pm Sunday to Sunday at midnight.

The Status Yellow also remains in place. The Status Yellow rain warning has been issued for warning for Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Kerry, Waterford.

With the Status Yellow warning, the forecaster, Met Eireann stated that from tonight and through all day tomorrow, “persistent and heavy rain” may lead to localised flooding, poor visibility and difficult travelling conditions.”

The upgraded Status Orange warning, starting from 1pm on Sunday, is predicting “heavy rain with some intense and thundery downpours.” In turn, some of the potential impacts in Wexford over this time period include “flooding” and “travel disruption”
