Professional Wexford boxer Dean Furlong has next fight confirmed

It’s a good time to be a fan of professional boxing if you’re from Wexford…

Wexford not only has one professional boxer starting off their journeys, they have two.

Both Dean Gonzalez Furlong and David ‘Bomber’ Kennedy have just started out their professional boxing careers, giving the proud Wexford faithful something to shout about.

There is a big professional boxing event coming to Waterford on December 7th.

Popular Waterford native, Dylan Moran, has a scheduled bout taking place there.

Moran recently called out Belfast man Tyrone McKenna, who is promoted by Conlan Boxing. McKenna responded positively to the call out and the fight looks to be sealed and delivered. Wexford town man and forrmer Wexford CBS boxer Dean Gonzalez Furlong is also promoted by Conlan Boxing.

It is believed that Dean Furlong has been penciled in to fight on the undercard of that fight. While there has been no confirmation from the promoters just yet, Furlong has been given a role to walk out with Wexford FC in their FAI Cup semi-final clash, further promoting the Waterford fight on December 7th.

In a social media post, Wexford FC stated:

“Big shout out to Wexford man Dean Gonzalez Furlong who is taking time out tomorrow from his training schedule for his next professional bout on the 7th of Dec in Waterford on the McKenna v Moran bill – to support Wexford in the semi final.”

Meanwhile, it would not be surprising to see David ‘Bomber’ Kennedy feature on this card too. On Friday October 4th, the popular Gorey man made his professional debut and won comfortably against a tough Polish fighter, Michal Malicki.

Kennedy and boxing promoters Jamie and Michael Conlan would have crossed paths before too. Kennedy was acting as the fourth man in the corner for Kevin Cronin’s fight, as he was his main sparring partner for that fight which the Kerry man won.

It would be two months after Kennedy’s professional debut and almost perfect timing if he wants to keep active. Given the significant Wexford crowd that Kennedy brought to the “Warehouse” at the Red Cow, perhaps promoters Conlan Boxing and Ring Kings will be open to placing Kennedy on their next big card in Waterford.
