This isn’t ideal for anyone…
The Wexford Senior Hurling quarter-final between St Annes and the Rapparees was forced to be postponed this evening.
The match was scheduled to take place at 7pm in Chadwicks Wexford Park. Wexford GAA announced the postponement at 5:55pm.
They stated that an issue with the “generator” has meant that “the floodlights in Chadwicks Wexford Park are currently unavailable.”
The fixture will now instead be played on Monday evening, October 7th, at 7:30pm in Wexford Park.
It’s not the first time this year that the generator has caused issues at Wexford Park either. Back in January of 2024, the O’Byrne Cup clash between Wexford and Wicklow had to be changed to the Ferns Centre of Excellence due to issues with the generator at Wexford Park.
The floodlights were only installed in 2023 and were a significant part of the Wexford GAA’s renovation of their county stadium.
Just next week – on October 12th, President of the GAA Jarlath Burns is scheduled to pay a visit to Wexford to officially open the renovated Chadwicks Wexford Park, which included renovations such as the new floodlights, the seating area, the new dressing rooms, and the media room.
Wexford GAA have said that “all existing tickets will remain valid for Monday” and that they apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
