Wexford burger joint in running to claim Burger of the Year title

A Wexford business is in the running for a national award…

10 Nine Burger is located in New Ross in County Wexford. The burger joint business, which only opened its doors in 2022, has the chance to take an illustrious national title as their business is in the running to become the Burger of the Year.

To be handed an award like this would be incredible, but even to be nominated speaks volumes too. Business owner Aaron Doyle told us how the nomination came about.

“We were contacted by the YesChef awards team. They said we had been nominated by members of the public for Burger Of The Year and Street Food of the Year which we were absolutely thrilled to hear the news of,” he said.

With some excellent burger joints around nationwide, it would be an incredible feat to win the competition. It’s great to be a part of competitions like this, but at the end of the day – it is a competition too and Aaron is hoping that his burger joint will be able to bring back the Gold to Wexford.

“This is our first year nominated for Burger Of The Year. There is some incredible quality burgers from restaurants throughout the country and to be amongst them is an incredible feeling. We’re hoping our approach of utilising the best local ingredients at hand with simplicity and perfect execution will scoop us the win,” Aaron told Wexford Weekly.

In all walks of business, an important aspect is to be able to stand out. There are tonnes of burger joints and restaurants around, so what makes 10 Nine Burger special? We put the question to Aaron, who insisted that it’s due to the fact that the food is made in-house, making it delicious and fresh in equal measure.

“Our food stands out as we’re true scratch kitchen. Every element in our food is made from scratch in house. Our burgers are outsourced to Butchers Best where we use a custom blend of lean Black Angus chuck and brisket minced fresh every morning. We also run bi-monthly specials where we create some absolute flavour bombs which keeps our menu fresh and exciting,” he said.

The rise of 10 Nine Burger has been somewhat meteoric. Winning awards has become commonplace for this Wexford burger joint; it was something that happened from the beginning, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see the new business scoop another award.

“I launched the business in the summer of 2022 becsuse I wanted somewhere that took comfort food to another level but in a casual setting. We won Street food of the Year within 6 months of opening and recently scooped our double win for 2024 at the YesChef restaurant awards. What started out as a one man band grew into a team serving hundreds of people a night,” he said.

It can be a bit cliché, but business owner Aaron knows that this wouldn’t be at all possible without the incredible team around him and the amazing support that he has:

“The success of 10 Nine Burger is down the support from our customers and working with our incredible team of local suppliers. The decision to buy local cements a chain of jobs and keeps the spark of creativity alive,” Aaron told Wexford Weekly.
