It’s a fantastic time to be following boxing if you’re from Wexford….
Just six months ago, Wexford didn’t have any professional boxers to follow. Six months later, the county now has three to get behind.
Dean Gonzalez Furlong made his debut last April. Gorey boxer David ‘Bomber’ Kennedy made a winning start on his debut just last month in early October, and now, Dean Walsh is set to announce his return to the professional ranks.
In an incredible turn of events, it could mean that Wexford’s three new professional boxers could be boxing on the same card in Waterford in seven week’s time.
As part of the Conlan Boxing and Ring Kings card set to be held in Waterford in December, the three Wexford boxers look likely to partake in the event. Furlong is promoted by Conlan Boxing and has already announced that he’ll be fighting on the undercard.
Meanwhile, according to Irishboxing.com, Dean Walsh, is also set to feature with his official announcement pending.
On the card, we could also see David ‘Bomber’ Kennedy feature, with boxing promoter Jamie Conlan name-dropping him in a recent interview with Irishboxing.com.
“Dean Walsh will make his professional debut, Dean Gonzalez Furlong will also be in Waterford. We’re also looking at David Kennedy and stuff like that. We’re excited, but we’re just figuring it all out at the minute” Jamie Conlan said.
It would be incredible to see the three Wexford boxers fight locally, and no doubt, a huge Wexford crowd would show up at the event to support their own.
The card, headlined by Dylan Moran and Tyrone McKenna, is set to take place in Waterford at the SETU Arena on December 7th.
