A Wexford man has created a podcast with one simple aim…
22-year-old James Ryan, from the village of Kilmuckridge in Wexford alongside his best mate Ian O’Reilly who is originally from Blanchardstown in Dublin but is now living in Oulart, have created a podcast entitled “Be honest bro”.
For the pair, the aim of the podcast is a simple one:
“It’s a comedy podcast and our aim is to put a smile on people’s faces in a world right now filled with so much negativity. Our main hopes for the podcast is to stay consistent with our podcast episodes, grow our fan base and give back as much as we possibly can.” James told Wexford Weekly.
Along with creating entertaining and engaging content for people to listen to and watch, the pair believe that the podcast can act as a way to give back to the community. This is something that they’ve already been doing over the past year.
“This year alone, we have climbed Croagh Patrick to raise money for the Irish Cancer Society and St Francis Hospice in Dublin. We raised over €1,500. We also played a charity football match against the transplant team Ireland in order to help them prepare for the world cup in Italy and raise funds for them to go abroad and play in the Transplant world cup,” James tells Wexford Weekly.
Regarding the podcast itself, they’ve enjoyed an array of interesting and funny stories. But we asked them, who had the most interesting story so far?
“I’d say the most interesting story on the podcast so far would’ve been the episode where we talked about our experience climbing croagh Patrick. We discussed the ups and downs, the funny stories from the climb and also the struggles we faced during the climb, which can be listened to on Episode 10 entitled “A Climb for Cancer’,” James said.
Whereas the short-term goal may be some more local publicity and becoming more community-orientated, their visions are clear too for the future:
“A long term goal for our podcast would definitely be to play a show infront of a live audience. We would also love to do more charity events in the future,” they said.
With podcasts, one of the most important things is to get interesting guests on board. People want to hear something different, they want to hear stories, and they want to be entertained.
“We have many guests planned for the future. We have boxer David Kennedy coming on soon to talk about his recent pro debut and his future plans in boxing. We also have Cian Fitzgerald – DJ Ciano – coming in to discuss his social media journey so far. Then, we have Lar Brennan, who plays for transplant Team Ireland. He will discuss his amazing and inspirational story and his recent experience in the transplant world cup in Italy,” James told Wexford Weekly.
Along side the podcast, they also produce videos which they share online:
“We also do videos online. We have one video with over 1.1million views and another two videos with over 100 thousand views,” James said.
For those interested, you can listen to the ‘Be Honest bro’ podcast on Spotify. They can also be found on TikTok.
