Although Rathnure’s main priority was to regain Senior status in the Wexford SHC, there is more silverware up for grabs now and given the talent on their team, they should fancy their chances of doing quite well in the provincial competition too…
Rathnure will face Commercials, who are the Dublin Intermediate champions, in the Leinster Club Intermediate quarter-final this weekend.
One of the major positives heading into the clash against the Dublin champions is that it’s a home clash for the Wexford champions. The venue for this match is Bellefield in Enniscorthy and it will take place on Saturday, November 16th, with throw-in at 1:30.
One of the most recent guests on The Wexford Hurling Podcast was Rathnure hurling selector, Dermot Flynn. Speaking to both Ben Bernie and Garry Doran of The Wexford Hurling Podcast, Flynn said:
“We’re trying to refocus now. It’s there in front of us. We’re going to represent Wexford and we’re going to give it a good shot. Please God now, we get a run at it and that we’re not knocked out in the first round. If we’re able to get them through Saturday, we’ll be able to get them back into training properly and give it a good cut,” he said.
“It won’t be a struggle to refocus their minds. They’re a great bunch of lads. They’re not used to winning, so they’re on a high now and we’ll get them back quick enough,” the Rathnure selector said.
A win against Commercials would set up a semi-final clash against either the Wicklow or Meath champions. The Wicklow champions are Bray Emmets while the Meath champions are Ratoath. The semi-finals will be played the following week on Saturday November 22nd.
