Wexford FC captain departs the club ahead of new season

Current Wexford FC captain has decided to depart the club…

Ethan Boyle, who has been a regular feature on the Wexford FC team-sheet since joining the club two years ago, has opted to depart the club.

Releasing a statement on Thursday afternoon, Boyle said:

“It was an honour to captain this club for the last 2 years. Wish the club nothing but success going forward! I’ll be out to Ferrycarrig to take in as many games as I can as a fan,” Boyle said.

Before he signed with Wexford FC, Boyle enjoyed a steady career, with Wexford FC stating that “he’s one of the greatest players from County Wexford” at the time of his signing two years ago.

Boyle, who is from Wexford town, has starred for Finn Harps, Shamrock Rovers, and Waterford with over 200 senior League of Ireland appearances to his name at that time.

He made 33 appearances for Wexford FC in 2024, helping their push for promotion and their Cup run. Although Wexford FC didn’t attain any silverware, fans will be sad to see him go and will be thankful for his efforts with the club.

Boyle may not be the only club member departing. If all goes well for 17-year old Kaylem Harnett when he’s on trial, he may be signed by Premier League side Brentford during the January transfer window.
