One Wexford GAA player has been named in the GAA.ie Team of the Week….
Both the Wexford Senior hurlers and the Wexford Senior footballers were in action in the opening games of the Allianz Leagues on Saturday evening.
The Wexford hurlers lost out to Cork, but the Wexford Senior footballers racked up a big win against London in their opener.
Although the two teams were in action, just one player made it onto the GAA Team of the Week.
Wexford’s full-back, Gavan Sheehan, was named in the full-back position and was Wexford’s sole representative across the two teams.

As reported by Wexford Weekly writer Byron Jones who attended the games, Sheehan buried a ball to the back of the London net after venturing up field from his traditional full-back position to find himself with the ball on the square.
“Late on in the first half, Wexford full-back Gavin Sheehan found himself on the edge of the small square after a venture up the pitch. A scruffy shot at the posts by Wexford ended up in the danger area which was neatly caught by Sheehan who slipped like an eel back around a London defender, made an angle, and absolutely buried it in the bottom corner from close range,” Wexford Weekly reporter Byron Jones stated.
The Wexford Senior footballers, under the helm of John Hegarty in his third year in charge, face a big test next weekend when they travel to Limerick to face the Treaty County.
Likewise, in the hurling, Keith Rossiter’s depleted charges may be facing another uphill battle when they travel to Semple Stadium to face Liam Cahill’s Tipperary team that defeated Galway by 12 points last weekend.
