Wexford Senior hurling selector takes charge of Ballygunner

A current Wexford Senior hurling selector has been named the new manager of a top Munster hurling team…

Wexford hurling selector, Jason Ryan, has been confirmed as the new coach of Ballygunner in Waterford, according to Waterford radio station, WLRFM.

Ryan managed the Wexford Senior footballers for five years, before having a stint with Kildare and then moving on to hurling management on the club scene. He has managed club teams in Wexford such as Glynn Barntown and Taghmon/Camross.

In 2023, new Wexford hurling boss Keith Rossiter brought Ryan into his backroom team.

Taking up the reigns of a top side like Ballygunner is an interesting move for Ryan. He takes charge after Daaragh O’Sullivan departed the role. O’Sullivan guided the Gunners to six successive Waterford Senior Hurling Championship titles, three successive Munster club titles and their famed 2022 All-Ireland success in his time at the helm.

Ryan’s new position with Ballygunner is unlikely to impact his commitment to the Wexford Senior hurlers. He was present at their most recent match against Kilkenny and even acted as a spokesperson when RTE interviewed him prior to the game.
