Wexford travelled to Cusack Park in Ennis on Sunday and came away with their first points of the campaign…
Speaking on Allianz League Sunday, Neil McManus highlighted one reason why Wexford fans should be delighted with their performance against the reigning All-Ireland champions:
“The Wexford heart was in full display from the first minute. I know we’ve seen them start off really poorly against Kilkenny, but build into it near the end. But how they went about this all day will have been so pleasing to the Wexford public. They were full value. They got it right, in the middle of the park especially. But having Lee Chin back, obviously, was such a lovely foil for them, and he was really top class,” former Antrim hurler and now pundit Neil McManus said.

Meanwhile, on Allianz League Sunday, Joe Canning heaped praise on Wexford Senior hurling manager Keith Rossiter for his positional changes that no doubt impacted the game:
“Yeah, it has been difficult for them over the past weeks and months, really, even last year. But even today, when they were under pressure at the start, Tony Kelly flew out of the blocks, 1-03 all of a sudden. And Eoin Ryan was under pressure with him. And sometimes you see these guys being whipped off straight away, but he just switched it around, and Eoin Ryan actually came into the game then after. The confidence thing for him is brilliant tonight now after the win. He’ll forget probably that one three he conceded off Tony Kelly. You know, it’s better for him than being subbed off straight away,” Canning stated.
“So he’s building nicely. They’re obviously a very young team. And like you said, having Lea Chin back, most of the things went through him today because they’re missing still a few. They’re missing Rory O’Connor…Conor McDonald. I don’t know. There’s rumours he mightn’t be here for a while. So they’ll be very, very happy with that. Going to Clare is not an easy place to go. to go down there and get a big result was good for Rossiter and good for confidence for them going forward,” Joe Canning told Allianz League Sunday.
It is believed that Wexford forward Conor McDonald had an operation recently on an ongoing hip problem, being ruled out for the remainder of the League and likely the opening of the Leinster Championship campaign.
Another player that will miss next week’s clash is Fethard’s Cian Byrne, after he was sent off with just six minutes to go for an accidental strike on Clare defender, Darragh Lohan.
Wexford will take on Galway next weekend in front of their home crowd Wexford Park. With their first points on the board, Wexford will be hoping to build on that and get a result against the Tribesmen this weekend.
