Woman who died in toilet on Ferry in Wexford named locally

A woman was found dead in a toilet on a ferry last night (Tuesday)…

A woman was found unresponsive in the toilet of the Fishguard-Rosslare Stena Nordica Ferry, which docked at Rosslare Europort at around 5.30pm.

The woman, who lost her life, has been named locally as Mary Cash. Reports from The Mirror, and a radio report from Kildare, states that the woman was from Ireland but had been residing in the UK. The same reports stated that she was travelling to attend a funeral, due to be held in Kildare, Ireland.

Emergency services and Gardai were alerted to the incident shortly after 5pm and boarded the ship, which last night remained docked at the Wexford harbour.

The captain of the ferry, which had travelled across the Irish Sea from Fishguard, Wales, made an emergency call for assistance after a violent row took place on the vessel, according to a report from Dublin Live. Armed Gardai and the public order unit then rushed to Rosslare port.

A man was arrested at the scene. He was arrested in connection with the investigation and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

A new report today from The Mirror said that Gardai in Ireland believe her death to be of a personal tragedy – but a “post mortem examination is currently being carried out at Waterford University Hospital.” The results of the post-mortem will determine the nature and course of the investigation.
