Application submitted to turn Wexford hotel into “emergency accommodation for international protection” applicants

An application has been submitted to turn a Wexford hotel into a centre for those seeking “emergency accommodation”…”

An application has been lodged with the Wexford County Council planning authority.

The application was made on behalf of Vision Accommodation Solution Limited, with an address at Ballymount, Dublin. The company’s director is Samantha Fisher, with an address in Paulstown, Kilkenny.

The property, a former hotel which is now empty, is the Danby Hotel located at Common, Killinick, Co. Wexford.

The applicant proposes to change the hotel to “temporary accommodation for displaced people seeking international protection.”

As per the application, available on the Wexford County Council website, it will provide 29 bedrooms for displaced persons and is in keeping with the ‘Guidelines for Development of New Emergency Accommodation’.

It has been submitted as part of an Exempted Development under Section 5 of the Planning and Development Act 2005. This means that the property would not need planning permission for the proposed change.

The reference number of the Wexford County Council website is: EXD01163. It is available to view online via Wexford County Council Planning Applications.

Another application was submitted on behalf of Shiela O’Riordan to change the use of a B&B property in Killinick to an IPAS centre. This submission, also under the Exempted Development Act, was lodged in January of 2025.

Last month, an application was sought for an IPAS centre in Gorey, however, the well-known businessman made a U-turn with his plans afterwards given the backlash it had received from locals within the town.
