A Wexford non-profit organisation has decided to close its doors…
Cheap & Cheerful, which was based on Barrack Street in Wexford town, recently announced that they have closed down.
After just five months in operation, the Wexford non-profit organisation announced that it would be closing down in September 2024 due to financial strain and that the organisation had since became untenable.
“A big decision made this week for our crew – due to rising cost of living – business has quietened down considerably – we are making rent and utilities – but we are struggling to make the monthly donation at promised to Wexford People Helping People the past 3 months,” they said at the time.
However, an a new agreement was reached with the landlord.
Despite the new agreement, Cheap & Cheerful, took to social media on March 12th, 2025.
This has not been an easy decision. We returned to our shops thanks to our phenomenal landlord being willing to reduce our rent to help us along the way
“Unfortunately since before Christmas there has been a significant decline in business. We understand that our neighbouring business are experiencing this also. We have had many chats with the local businesses and they are all feeling the pinch. The only saving grace for us is that we are voluntary. If we had to pay staff we wouldn’t have been able to go as long as we have.”
“We’re closing down our physical shop in Barrack Street in Wexford Town,” they said.
They stated that they were having a “closing down sale” and that customers were welcomed to pop in “and say goodbye.” They also said a “huge thank you to all of customers and supporters” before stating that they “will miss you.”
Regarding non-profit organisation continuing, their position remains unclear:
“We aren’t quite sure how things will proceed once we close the physical shops,” they said.
