Wexford-based indie musician to release new album

A Wexford based indie musician, David Byrne of Season Of Spiders, will be releasing a new album soon….

Season Of Spiders is the musical world of David Byrne, former member of The Willows and The Aluskas. In 2020, he released Living In Make Believe, his debut album as Season Of Spiders. This was followed by Season Of Spiders , Ghost Stories & Parlour Games , The Following and Sonic Empire .

Now in May 2025, the sixth album by the group is being released. Secret Creatures is a twisted, eerie folk tale of a record and picks up where the other SOS albums left off.

Cobweb Recordings – David’s own record label – are very pleased to announce the release of the sixth album from Season Of Spiders, Secret Creatures on 23 May 2025. The album was recorded at the same time as another one called Halloweenville, and both records are opposites of one another; the former is the nightmarish evil twin, while the latter is it’s harmonious, friendly kin.

Speaking to Wexford Weekly, David Byrne – who has been living in Courtown County Wexford for over a decade now, said:

“Sound-wise, Secret Creatures is a huge album, full of musically inventive ideas and tones, never content to rest on it’s laurels. It veers from simple acoustic performances to total freak-outs, and ornate ballads to electronically drenched textures. For those who’ve been following Season Of Spiders since the start, it promises to be a real treat.”

The record features five Singles, “Pumpkin Boy”, “Wedding Vows”, “House Of Limbs”, “Celeste” and the title track. It’s out digitally everywhere and may even have a limited Vinyl run too, so keep your eyes peeled for that.

Season Of Spiders tells the continuing story of Dave’s Alter-Ego, Jack Valentine, his family and the trials and tribulations of things to come in their lives. The music he’s made is eclectic and genre-blending; rock ‘n’ roll sits comfortably beside country , electronica , riff heavy rockers , 8-Bit sounds and just straight-ahead great songs to highlight just a few. His music is made for listening to and demands your attention.

Dave is an independent solo musician who writes and records at his small home studio Audio Arcade in Wexford. The music is released through his own label Cobweb Recordings. Originally from Dublin, he moved to Co. Wexford in 2015 where he lives with my wife Natalie , son Casper and dog Sparky.

Furthermore, he writes and edits the SOS Almanac, a yearly music journal dedicated to Season Of Spiders. These magazines are special releases about each of his albums and they feature a lot of articles, mixtapes, recording info and artwork too. He publishes these issues through Zebra In A Top Hat Press, a small publishing house run by him and his Wife.
