Wexford café in ideal location to close its doors

A Wexford café will its doors for the last time…

Bramble Cottage Kitchen café, located on Esmonde Street in Gorey, has made the decision to close down. The café, known as a heaven for sweet treats and baked goods, will close down on May 24th 2025.

The owner of the cafe, Deborah Doyle told the Irish Independent that the business simply wasn’t there. Deborah opened the café just 14 months ago and it was in a prime location on the busy Esmonde Street in Gorey town.

“To say the last 6 months have been difficult for myself and my family is an understatement but it’s made me realise our health and happiness comes first. I won’t lie having the shop was so much harder than I ever realised it would be. My love of baking just wasn’t enough,” she said in a statement placed online through her business’ social media.

She noted that the café – which was dog friendly – was not turning over any money whatsoever, despite the countless hours she was putting in to her passion. With this also came financial pressure and personal break-downs, she said:

“I want to thank my family and staff for helping me through, I’ve lost count of the emotional break downs I’ve had but hearing the lovely feedback and meeting my customers especially the 4 legged ones has kept me going,” she said.

It’s sad to see a business like this closing down, but it also highlights the stiff competition in this market – with countless new coffee shops popping up across the county and country, especially since the Covid-19 pandemic.
