Wexford man captains Irish Arrows team to international silverware

The Irish Arrows team recently travelled to Turkey…

In their opening clash, the Irish Arrows team defeated the Turkish champions on a score-line of 13-3. After that, they defeated the Turkey National team on a score-line of 13-2.

Next up for the Irish Arrows team was a game against the old enemy, the UK.

The Irish Arrows team defeated the UK by the minimum. In a nail-biting finish, the match went down the the final game. Joe Byrne from Dublin had a 116 finish to bring the title back to Ireland, with Wexford man – Billy O’Brien, captaining the successful side.

To put the icing on the cake for the Irish Arrows team, one of their members – Andrew Gillespie from Donegal – also won the Singles Championship, marking an excellent weekend for the Irish Arrows team on the international stage.

Catching up with Wexford native and long-term darts player Billy after the event, he told Wexford Weekly that:

“Everyone of the team played their heart out. I was a very proud captain of the Ireland team and delighted to have John Murphy another Wexford man on the team who also played great darts,” he said.
