Last year’s Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann, which was held in Wexford, was a rousing success…
One of the highlights – beyond the live music and the buzzing community aspect – was the Guinness World Record attempt held at Wexford Park.
During the 2024 Fleadh, a Guinness World Record was set for the largest group playing tin-whistles similtaneously. A total of 2,516 musicians participated, playing for five minutes. The record-breaking event took place at Wexford Park, with participants playing ‘Dawning of the Day’ and ‘The Boys of Wexford’.
This received both local and nationwide attention, with RTE broadcasting the event on the news later that evening.
For 2025, Wexford Park will host yet another ‘Guinness World Record’ attempt during the 2025 Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann, allowing musicians to be a part of even more history.
It was revealed at the most recent Wexford GAA County Board meeting that the 2025 Fleadh “will include another Guinness World Record attempt at Chadwicks Wexford Park, with this one being for the largest ever Ceilí Band.”
The current céilí band record of 386 musicians, set at Croke Park in March 2024.
Given that Wexford is actually the birth-place of the Guinness World Records, it is fitting that Wexford has many record-breakers in their famous book!
Details have since been released by the organisers. It will take place on Thursday, 7th August 2025 at Wexford Park GAA Grounds (Y35 RT91). For those taking part, gates will open at 4pm to collect their specific wristband.
Those interested in taking part must first register online to express their interest – and to receive a certificate, should the record be broken.
