Wexford County Board provide update on Wexford Senior teams

There’ll be no change at the top for Wexford’s senior inter-county teams next season…

Both Wexford hurling boss Keith Rossiter and football manager John Hegarty have been confirmed to stay in charge at a recent Wexford GAA County Board meeting.

For Rossiter, it’ll be his third year leading the Yellowbellies. The Oulart-The Ballagh man took the role ahead of the 2024 campaign. While there were highs and lows, there’s a sense that Wexford are undergoing a re-building process and Rossiter is the right man to lead that change.

With another year confirmed, Rossiter gets the chance to settle the panel, blood a few more young lads, and fine-tune the team’s style heading into the 2025 League and Championship.

On the football side, John Hegarty is set for his fourth season at the helm. The Kilanerin-Ballyfad man has put his stamp on this team over the past few years, focusing on fitness, structure, and bringing through new talent from the underage ranks.

Hegarty’s tenure hasn’t yet delivered silverware, but Wexford’s footballers have become a more competitive outfit under his watch. They’re organised, they work hard for each other, and they’re edging closer to causing a few big shocks in Leinster.

Going into next season, he’ll be aiming to retain their newly-earned Division 3 status in the National Football League.

From the County Board’s point of view, keeping both managers on shows confidence in the direction things are heading. Chopping and changing can sometimes set teams back; instead, this decision keeps the same voices in the dressing rooms and allows the work that’s already underway to continue.

Rossiter will be looking to sharpen Wexford’s attacking threat and keep consistency high against the big counties. Hegarty, meanwhile, will be aiming to turn his squad’s growing experience into more positive results.
