The next election is scheduled for October 24, 2025, following the end of incumbent Michael D. Higgins’ second term on November 11, 2025. Nominations close on September 24, 2025.
Former UFC figher, Conor McGregor, is amongst the list of names seeking a nomination to run for the next President of Ireland. At least 4 local authorities (out of 31 county or city councils) or at least 20 members of the Oireachtas are needed to secure a nomination on the Ballot paper.
On Sunday 8th September, Wexford County Councillor, Leonard Kelly, revealed that the following names have sought a nomination from Wexford:
