A Wexford athlete has been crowned Sportswoman of the Year at a recent awards ceremony…
Wexford’s Aoife Wafer has been named Sportswoman of the Year at the 2025 Goss.ie Women of the Year Awards, held in Dublin at the weekend.
The Ballygarret woman enjoyed a phenomenal year on the rugby pitch, starring for both Leinster and Ireland.
Wafer’s performances in the Women’s Six Nations were particularly impressive, where her strength, speed, and consistency made her one of the standout players in the tournament. Earlier this year, she was named Women’s Six Nations Player of the Championship for 2025 and also won April 2025 Sportswoman of the Month by Sport Ireland.
Known for her leadership qualities and professionalism, she has become a key figure in the growth of Irish women’s rugby and an inspiration to young players across the country.
Her award recognises not only her athletic ability but also her impact on and off the field — representing Ireland with pride, drive, and determination.
Aoife’s success highlights the strength of sporting talent coming out of County Wexford and continues to shine a light on the growing influence of women’s sport nationwide.
