Legendary Irish band The Fureys to play in Wexford for farewell tour

Legendary Irish folk group The Fureys are set to perform at the Wexford Opera House as part of their Farewell Tour…

On Sunday, January 4th, 2026, as part of their highly anticipated Farewell Tour, the Furey’s will mark the end of over four decades of music-making together. In May 2026, the Fureys will come to an end.

Formed in 1978 by brothers Eddie and Finbar Furey, along with George and Paul, The Fureys quickly became one of Ireland’s most beloved folk groups. Known for classics such as “When You Were Sweet Sixteen,” “The Green Fields of France,” and “I Will Love You,” their heartfelt storytelling and signature harmonies have made them household names across Ireland and beyond.

Over the years, The Fureys have performed on some of the world’s greatest stages, earning fans across generations with their mix of traditional Irish sound and contemporary charm.

“We know we have been among the luckiest people on earth having a ‘job’ we love and enjoy, traveling the world to places we would never have been to, meeting people and making many friends, we would never have met.”

“However, time catches up with us all and we will look to a new future from the middle of 2026 playing at the odd music session and seeing the younger Furey generation playing their music. Our manager Joe McCadden will also be retiring from the business after 56 years, 39 of them with us,” Eddie said.

Their upcoming Wexford concert will be an emotional occasion, giving fans a final chance to experience the warmth, humour, and timeless songs that defined the group’s remarkable career.
