Two former Wexford hurlers join backroom staff of Wexford u-20 team

Along with some changes to the Wexford Senior hurling backroom team, there are also some additions to the Wexford u-20 hurling team…

Long-serving Wexford inter-county hurler, Liam óG McGovern, has been brought in to the Wexford u-20 backroom team by manager Ronán Joyce. McGovern retired from inter-county hurling in January of 2025 ahead of last season’s championship.

McGovern’s inter-county career lasted over 13 years with the Purple and Gold and his experience will bring a boost to the set-up.

Meanwhile, St Martins player Joe O’Connor – who also enjoyed spells with the Wexford Senior hurling team – has also been brought into the set-up. O’Connor played at centre-back for his club before an injury ruled him out for this season.

The duo will join the previously ratified trio of coaches and selectors Eoin O’Mahoney (Oylegate-Glenbrien), Roger Ennis (Horeswood), and Benny Barron (Shelmaliers) in the backroom set-up for the upcoming season.

The news was revealed at the most recent County Board meeting held in Wexford Park on 22 October 2025.
