Wexford man’s quiz targets 1 million meals for hungry children

Mary’s Meals was started in 2002 with the purpose of feeding hungry children in school…

It began in Malawi with 200 children but has now reached the staggering figure of three million children per school day in 16 countries.

To assist them in this endeavour, an online quiz fundraiser was established in 2021 by Wexford man, Martin Colfer, who is based near Camross.

Starting with a modest once-off target of €1,000 it too has grown significantly and provided over 900,000 meals with hopes of exceeding one million by the end of the  year. To this end, a Colossal Christmas Quiz is being organised for Dec 12th at 8pm.

“I started a monthly online quiz for Mary’s Meals in 2021. For December last year, we did our first Colossal Christmas quiz and this is our second one. So far, we have provided 950,000 meals and hopefully will exceed one million by the end of the year. The quiz is run online so people can take part from anywhere,” Martin told Wexford Weekly.

The organisers are aiming for 300 participants and people can enter the quiz (FREE) with 2 simple steps as follows:

1) Google play.myquiz.org

 2) type in the code for December which is 908101.

You are not visible on the screen and can use a nickname so you are also anonymous.

93% of money raised goes to charitable activities and it only costs 11c a meal.

Donations for November, December and up to January 12 will be doubled through the wonderful generosity of the Tom Cunningham Trust. To make a contribution go to www,bit.ly/QuizforMM. There are 78 million children who suffer extreme food deprivation and one dies every 10 seconds.
