It was on the cards, but it has now been officially confirmed…
Both Tara Rocks and Kilanerin have discontinued their GAA club partnership.
The news was officially confirmed at the most recent Wexford GAA County Board meeting held on Tuesday November 25, 2025 at Wexford Park.
Cathaoirleach John Kenny informed the meeting that Tara Rocks and Kilanerin/Ballyfad no longer wish to continue the amalgamation that has been in place in recent years.
At adult level, the amalgamation had been in place for almost one decade, while at underage level, the formation of Ballynastragh Gaels was in place for 19 years.
Tara Rocks had voted at their AGM on Friday November 21 to discontinue it.
One of the club’s reasons was due to the growth of Gorey and the Tara Rocks catchment area in recent years. One of the reasons for the amalgamation in the first instance was due to a shortage of players from Tara Rocks.
Kilanerin/Ballyfad had also been due to vote on it at AGM on Friday November 28, but there was now no need to do so.
The clubs will now compete separately at both underage and adult levels.
Brian McDonald, speaking on behalf of Tara Rocks, thanked Kilanerin/Ballyfad and CLG Loch Garman for having given the club the opportunity of the partnership. He said it had worked well for more than 20 years at underage level and for nine years at adult, but had now run its course.
He said Tara Rocks are already starting recruitment efforts to bring in additional players, and while there are challenges ahead, they are confident they are an attractive club.
Michael McGonigle, Cathaoirleach of Kilanerin/Ballyfad, also spoke on the issue and wished Tara Rocks well for the future.
CLG Loch Garman will now liaise with CCC Loch Garman and Croke Park to start the process of the clubs returning to competing as separate entities in next year’s competitions.
