Items stolen from rural Wexford pub on ’12 pubs of Christmas’ route

A rural Co. Wexford pub has appealed for the return of items stolen during a busy festive weekend, after one group taking part in the “12 Pubs of Christmas” removed property from the premises….

Redmond’s Pub of Scarawalsh said the incident occurred on Saturday night when several buses visited the venue as part of Christmas celebrations.

According to management, four of the five groups caused no issues and were welcomed as part of the seasonal atmosphere, with Christmas party bookings and live music contributing to a lively evening.

For many groups doing the “12 pubs of Christmas,” there are often rules for each pub. They can be as simple as ‘drink with your left hand’, ‘no cursing’, ‘no nicknames’. However, the owner of Redmond’s Scarawalsh believes that for one group, they had a rule that each participating member must steal something small or as he describes it, a “a cool item.”

The pub reported that items including pictures, ashtrays and other decorative pieces were taken by one group, describing the actions as outright theft rather than harmless fun. Management said they are aware of the general area the bus travelled from but do not know the individuals involved.

In a statement, the pub stressed that while it is a public house, all items inside are private property, and taking them is unacceptable. They have urged those responsible to “do the decent thing” and return the stolen items.

The pub also issued a clear message ahead of upcoming weekends: groups who want to enjoy the festivities respectfully are more than welcome, but anyone who believes stealing property is part of the “craic” should not include the venue on their route.
