David Bomber Kennedy seeks active year as he prepares for next professional fight

Professional boxer David “Bomber” Kennedy has pencilled in a new fight date which takes place next month

The Gorey boxer will travel to Ballybofey, County Donegal, as he hopes to go 3-0 to kickstart what he hopes to be a very busy year in the ring.

Bomber’s next fight will take place next month at the Finn Valley Centre in Ballybofey, Donegal, on February 21st 2026.

We caught up with the Wexford man while in training camp as he prepares for the fight.

Although he hasn’t got an opponent confirmed at the time of writing, the light-heavyweight is working hard at the start of his training camp. Even though he’s a proud Wexford man, he now fights out of Monkstown Boxing Club in Dublin, getting consistent rounds with the likes of Kevin Cronin who was recently crowned with the BUI Irish light heavyweight title.

“The preparations are going very well for this camp. The weight is on point and the sparring is going very well too. I’m up and down to Dublin with the lads. They’re putting me through my paces and on February 21st, I’ll be ready,” he said.

His previous fight came against an Iranian boxer, Karami, in April of 2025. Kennedy had his hand raised to go 2-0 following a points decision, but admittedly it wasn’t his best performance. After the fight, he said it was also somewhat of a learning curve:

“The last fight wasn’t my best performance. I didn’t really stick to the tactics at all. It turned out into an all-out war really. But look, we got the hand raised.. and we moved on. Now it’s time to knuckle down, listen to the coaches more, and put on an unbelievable performance,” he admits.

Even though he admittedly didn’t box to the best of his ability in his previous fight, the main thing was that he had his hand raised at the end by the referee. It was a fight which seen him break his hand in the first round. Facing adversity and still coming out on top is one positive way to look it though at the infancy of his pro-boxing career.

In the following weeks and months, he didn’t stop training. This in turn allowed him to work on and master some other areas:

“A broken hand in the last fight wasn’t ideal. No boxer wants to be sitting on the sidelines. But I was never out of the gym, so now, I’m really just looking forward to February 21st,” he said.

As one could imagine, with months since his last pro fight, the Wexford man is excited to get back in there to show what he’s capable of. Unlike previous times when probed, the Wexford man is predicting a stoppage in his upcoming fight:

“Look, with any fight, I’d always back myself to be the winner. But… I can’t see this fight going the distance to be honest,” Kennedy told Wexford Weekly.

For his previous fights in Waterford and Dublin, a roaring Gorey and Wexford crowd were in attendance. Hundreds of people showed up from his hometown and county. This time around, one would think that the atmosphere may be a little bit different given the distance between Gorey and Ballybofey:

“It’s in Donegal, so it’s obviously a bit of a trip for people. But the ticket sales are still going well. I’m very lucky to have great family and friends around me. They always come out to support. They are there for every fight and this one shall be no different,” he said.

In all walks of life, people set goals, hopes and plans for their New Year to make it better than the last. For Kennedy, 2026 could be his biggest one yet if all goes to plan:

“This year is all about activity for me. I’d like to have 4-5 fights essentially. And then late this year or early next year, be in contention for a title,” he said.

David ‘Bomber’ Kennedy, who is currently 2-0 in the pro-boxing ranks, will fight at the Finn Valley Centre in Ballybofey, Donegal, on February 21st 2026.
