Wexford will take on Carlow in the Allianz Hurling League this weekend…

It’s the third game of the season which for the Wexford hurlers in Division 1B of the Allianz Hurling League. Last week, Wexford survived a scare in Ballycran against Down, needing two late points by Conor Hearne and Simon Roche to win the game. The previous week, Wexford took on Antrim at home and needed a Mark Fanning free with the last puck of the game to secure the two points. This coming weekend, Keith Rossiter’s side will take on Carlow who will be looking forward to this clash against Wexford.

How are Carlow doing?

Wexford have won two from two in their opening games, but neither win was a convincing one. Wexford survived two scares in their previous games. They needed a last gasp free from Mark Fanning to secure the points against Antrim. Likewise, against Down, they were level with just five minutes remaining and needed two late points – courtesty of Simon Roche and Conor Hearne – to come away from Down with the win.

In contrast, Carlow comfortably defeated Down in their opening clash of the Allianz Hurling League. Carlow, who were at home, defeated Down by 10 points. Carlow are managed by former Ferns St-Aidans manager Pat Bennett, so there’s no doubt that they will be well-prepared too given his knowledge of the club scene in Wexford. They had a bye last weekend, but they currently sit on the League table in 4th place with one win from one behind Dublin on score difference. Although the bookies may predict a relatively easy win for Wexford, this clash may be closer than the bookies and some people suggest.
