Professional Wexford boxer, David ‘Bomber’ Kennedy, returned to action last night when he took on Alex Fratisek Dzubak at the Finn Valley Centre in Ballybofey, County Donegal.
Although the fight went the distance, Kennedy won the fight quite comfortably with the judges calling all rounds in his favour with a score-line of 40-36. The Gorey light-heavyweight has now moved to 3-0 in the professional boxing ranks.
Kennedy was 10 months out of the ring after breaking his hand in the previous fight.
“I couldn’t wait to get back into the ring. Boxing is my life. It’s all I do really. There were shaded of eagerness in there, but I’m happy with my performance — and we’re back now,” the Wexford man said.
Speaking in a post-fight interview with Boxing Tickets NI, the Wexford man revealed some more plans as he hopes for a busy and active year.
“We’ll be ready to go. We’re fit and ready. It’s just about staying in the gym now and staying active. Get a couple of fights under my belt, go up to the six rounds, and we build and then take it from there,” he said.
“I’d like to go up to the 6 rounds next. I’ve had 3 four rounders. We’ll hopefully go for the 6-rounder next and then build it up,” he said.
A large crowd from Gorey and Wexford made the five hour trip to Ballybofey and Kennedy was quick to thank the travelling crowd and his sponsors.
