The Wexford Senior Camogie team were in action against Clare on Saturday afternoon…
Wexford lost out to Clare on a score-line of 0-15 – 0-09, but the story of the match was not the final result — but instead, the conditions that the two county teams had to endure.
The venue for the clash was changed at 12pm, with the game starting at 2pm. Due to an unplayable pitch in Clareabbey, the Division 1B tie was relocated to Meelick.
It was changed to a venue which had taken a lot of hardship, with a club challenge match reportedly taking place directly beforehand.
Wexford sports journalist, Dean Goodison, posted images of the pitch condition to his Twitter account which gathered signficant attention online.

Laura Dempsey, who is a member of the Wexford Senior Camogie team, was also outspoken about the unfair treatment that they received.
“It was a four hour journey from Wexford to Clare. The venue was changed at 12pm for a 2pm game. There was no dressing room before the game, or hot showers afterwards. I’m not usually one to give out, but this is really not good enough,” she said.
Anyone who interacted with the image or post is in agreement, with one user stating that “it’s a total lack of respect to both teams to allow the game to go ahead on that swamp.”
And even though one could argue that the pitch condition could be forgiven for February, the lack of proper changing facilities and having no hot showers afterwards cannot be.
It beggars belief that our elite women’s sportspeople are still being treated unfairly like this.
