Local sports star announced as Grand Marshal for Gorey’s St Patrick’s Day parade

There is a real sense of pride in Gorey this spring…

St Patrick’s Day is less than two weeks away and communities acorss Ireland — and indeed the world — are putting their final touches on the Paddy’s Day plans.

Talented amateur boxer Kayleigh Byrne has been announced as Grand Marshal for the town’s St Patrick’s Day Parade.

The Gorey native has made a name for herself in Irish amateur boxing circles thanks to her dedication, discipline and success in the ring. Her selection as Grand Marshal is seen as recognition not only of her sporting achievements, but also of her role as a positive ambassador for the town and for young athletes across north Wexford.

Byrne has represented her club and county with distinction over a number of years, competing at a high level and earning respect for her work ethic and determination. In a sport that demands resilience and courage, she has consistently shown both, inspiring many young people locally to take up boxing and pursue their goals.

Parade organisers said they were delighted that Kayleigh accepted the invitation to lead this year’s festivities. They described her as a “fantastic role model” whose commitment to her sport and community makes her an ideal choice to head the annual celebration.

Speaking on the announcement was Cllr. Craig Doyle:

“A better and more fitting person you couldn’t find after the amazing year that she’s had. Looking forward to whats she’s no doubt going to achieve in the coming months and years ahead. She will make Gorey proud,” he said.

St Patrick’s Day in Gorey is always one of the highlights of the local calendar, with colourful floats, community groups, sports clubs and businesses taking to the streets in a vibrant display of local spirit. Having a successful young sportsperson at the front of the parade is expected to add an extra layer of excitement and pride to the occasion.
