Lee Chin to no longer captain the Wexford Senior hurlers

There is a change in captaincy for Wexford’s upcoming season…

Lee Chin, who either captained or co-captrained the Wexford Senior hurling team for the past decade, will no longer be fulfilling that duty.

Instead, the batton has been passed to St Martins clubman, Jack O’Connor. Meanwhile, Oylegate-Glenbrien clubman Damien Reck has been handed the vice-captain role. The news was announced by Wexford GAA on Tuesday evening.

In making the announcement, manager Keith Rossiter said both Jack and Damien are natural leaders and influential figures both on and off the pitch.

St. Martin’s have had a special year in 2025 and it is fitting that Jack represents his club as Wexford captain for the coming 2026 season.

He acknowledged that the announcement means significant change after Lee Chin either co-captained or captained the side since 2017.

“Lee is still a massive leader for us,’ he said. ‘He’s an inspirational figure and has been a tremendous captain. The leadership and performances that he has given over the past decade have been phenomenal and we look forward to many more days like that for Lee in the Wexford jersey,” Rossiter said.

He indicated that Damien will lead the team on the field for the remaining League matches, with Jack expected to be back in action for the championship, and wished both the best of luck for 2026 in their pursuit of bringing home some silverware to Wexford.

Wexford will be returning to action this weekend when they take on Clare in Ennis in their second-last fixture of the Allianz Hurling League.
