PlayStation gaming event to take place on big screen at Wexford Cinema

Gamers in Wexford are being invited to swap the living room for the big screen as a unique PlayStation tournament lands at the Arc Cinema in Wexford, promising an evening of nostalgia, laughs and a little bit of friendly rivalry…

The event, titled “Finish Him?”, will see players go head-to-head in Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate on PlayStation 4, with all the action projected onto the cinema’s giant screen in front of a live audience. Organisers say the night is designed to capture the spirit of classic couch gaming, only on a much bigger scale.

Entry is priced at €10 per player, with each ticket including a complimentary popcorn combo and a souvenir movie poster, adding to the cinematic feel of the evening.

There are also prizes up for grabs for those who manage to fight their way to the top of the leaderboard. First place will take home a €200 Arc Cinema gift card along with tickets to Mortal Kombat II. Second and third place winners will receive gift cards valued at €100 and €20 respectively, each also paired with cinema tickets.

However, organisers are keen to stress that this is not a high-stakes esports competition. Instead, the focus is firmly on fun, nostalgia and what they describe as “chaotic bragging rights.” Casual players are not only welcome but encouraged to take part.

The tournament will follow a straightforward format, featuring a 32-player knockout bracket with one-on-one matches. Each round will consist of the best of three fights, while the semi-finals and grand final will be extended to best of five. Players can choose from the full roster of characters, with winners sticking with their chosen fighter and losers given the option to switch.

Due to the nature of the game’s content, the event is strictly for those aged 18 and over. With spaces limited, advance booking is strongly recommended to avoid disappointment.

For local gaming enthusiasts, or anyone simply looking for a different kind of night out, the event offers a rare chance to experience a beloved title in a truly larger-than-life setting.

The competition takes place on Wednesday, May 6th from 8pm to 11pm.
