Search on to find Wexford u-20 hurling manager for new season

Along with a search to find the new Wexford Senior hurling manager, there’s also a search on to find the next Wexford u-20 hurling manager…

The position was filled by Ronan Joyce (Shelmaliers) for the previous two years. A PE teacher at St Peter’s College in Wexford, he also guided the Shelmaliers Senior football side to Wexford Senior Football success in 2023.

Joyce has been in charge of the Wexford u20s for the previous two seasons and he may also go for the job again following his two year spell. The Irish Independent have reported that a sub-committee has been set-up to find the right man to guide the Wexford u20s for 2027. The search is on for the 2027 season and already, there are some names, including Joyce, flying about for potential replacements.

One name includes the current Wexford minor hurling manager JJ Doyle; it would be natural progression for Doyle if he wishes to continue with a similar squad. The Wexord man, who had success with the Wexford Camogie team and won a treble of Wexford u-21 titles in the past, was also tipped to become the new Wexford Senior hurling manager.

Other potential replacements could be Rory Jacob, Paul Carley, Liam Og McGovern, and Richie Flynn, who have been involved with Wexford minor or u-20 squads in the past, although some may be involved with club set-ups already with the new season fast approaching. Others, who may also be in the running for the next Wexford Senior role, could be options. Another potential candidate could be Oulart-The Ballagh clubman, Des Mythen.

The Irish Independent have reported that a sub-committee chaired by Micheál Mahon (HWH-Bunclody), will be established to find an under-20 hurling manager for 2027.

In related news, the Wexford Senior hurling club championship returns next Friday, June 26.
