Wexford weather warning upgraded to Status Orange

Wexford’s weather warning has been upgraded to Status Orange as Storm Austen is set to bring intense rainfall to the county in the early hours of Friday morning….

Met Éireann issued the upgraded warning for Wexford, Dublin and Wicklow on Wednesday, October 21, warning that flooding and very difficult travelling conditions are expected.

The Status Orange rain warning will come into effect at 2am on Friday, October 23, and remain in place until 8am.

The warning comes alongside a wider Status Yellow rain and wind warning covering Ireland, which will run from 7pm on Thursday, October 22, until 10am on Friday, October 23.

Heavy rain associated with Storm Austen is expected to spread eastwards across the country, while strong easterly winds will turn northwesterly and strengthen further, particularly in the south and southeast.

Under the Status Yellow warning, Met Éireann has highlighted the potential for difficult travelling conditions, localised flooding, disruption to outdoor events, displaced loose objects and some fallen trees and branches.

The Status Orange warning indicates a more serious risk, with flooding expected and the potential for disruption and delays to public transport services, including rail and bus services.

Motorists are being urged to take extra care, particularly during the morning commute, when the heaviest rainfall is expected to affect Wexford and neighbouring counties.

Residents should remain alert to further updates from Met Éireann as Storm Austen approaches.
