Davy Fitzgerald, now in his fifth year with the Wexford hurlers, will be looking forward to kick-starting the new campaign after a disappointing 2020 season.

Speaking at a recent Zoom event for Wexford GAA’s Wellness Month, former Wexford hurler Tom Dempsey pinpointed one key thing that Davy Fitzgerald needs to do moving into this new Allianz Hurling League:

“I think he certainly must look at, because of injury, he must look at unearthing a number of players. It’s not going to be easy. You’ve Conor Hearne, Glen Malone, lads like Conall Flood who’s definitely worth a run. A number of players.”

“But, Wexford to maintain a challenge this year, and looking forward to the next three or four years, we really need to unearth some players. It’s not the ideal situation, but we certainly need to find four, five, or six more players who we can put in at different stages of the game.”

“We probably have 20 that’d we’d look to, but we need to look to 24. I think that’s where the major advantage is for the Tipps, Galways, and Limericks. We could have a problem if that is not addressed at this point,” he said.

Perhaps Davy Fitzgerald was listening to Tom Dempsey when he revealed his starting fifteen for tomorrow’s clash against Laois. He has named several young players named on the side for tomorrow. Error, group does not exist! Check your syntax! (ID: 1)
