The Wexford Senior hurling title is Enniscorthy bound..

On Sunday, the Rapparees claimed their first Wexford Senior hurling title in 43 years.

Under the management of former Wexford hurler, Declan Ruth, the Rapparees captured the trophy after they defeated favourites St Annes on a scoreline of 6-18 to Anne’s 1-17 in what has to be described as one of the best team performances ever in a Wexford Senior hurling final.

Midfielder Alan Tobin, who finished with a personal tally of 1-03, received the Man of the Match award, while Ricky Fox (1-02) and Lenny Connolly (2-01) also starred in attack for the Enniscorthy side.

The Rapps’ scored a number of top-class goals, but this one below which was slotted away by Lenny Connolly encapsulates the Rapparees performance today at Chadwicks Wexford Park.

The Rapps last lifted the trophy back in 1978. Today, Wexford Senior hurler, Kevin Foley, lifted the trophy for the Rapps and just after he lifted the trophy in his post-match speech, he promised that the people of Enniscorthy would not have to wait as long for the trophy to be Enniscorthy bound ever again .

He stated that next year, the club will be “as hungry as ever” in their mission to recapture it.
