Gorey Community School Dedicate Rugby Win To Late Student On Daffodil Day

Gorey Community School has had a lot of sporting success lately…

Their Senior Footballers were crowned the All-Ireland ‘B’ champions recently when they defeated Patrician High School of Monaghan.

Today, on Friday 25 March, the school’s Senior Rugby team won a title of their own.

They were in the McMullen cup final in Old Belvedere Rugby Club on Friday against Wilson’s Hospital and they emerged victorious from the game on a scoreline of 12-8.

It’s not the first time Gorey Community School won the cup either, having also secured the title back in 2018.

Quite poignantly, the school dedicated the win to one of their late students, Sarah Robinson, with the final falling on Daffodil Day, which seeks to raise awareness of cancer in our society. Sarah was actively involved with rugby in Gorey Community School and in Gorey Rugby club.

Sarah, who was seventeen at the time, died in 2019 following an eleven month battle with cancer.

Many fundraising events for the Irish Cancer Society have occurred since in Sarah’s name.
