Wexford TD and former Labour leader Brendan Howlin to step down as TD

There’s some big news coming out of Wexford this morning…

Former labour leader and Wexford native, Brendan Howlin, will be stepping away from politics as he will not contest the next General Election.

Howlin confirmed his decision on his public Twitter page.

In a post published this morning, Brendan Howlin stated that:

“After serving Wexford in Dáil Éireann for almost forty years I have announced today that I will not be contesting the next General Election. It has been the privilege of my life to hold many public offices and enjoy the unbroken support of the people of the county I love,” he said.

Howlin was one of Wexford’s longest-serving TD’s. Over the next while, there will be many tributes going his way as he steps away from the Dáil Eireann after such a lengthy period.
