Big win for Wexford boxer Dean Walsh at National Stadium in Irish Elite preliminaries

Wexford boxer, Dean Walsh, was back in action last night…

Wexford boxer Dean Walsh of St Ibars Boxing Club in Wexford town was fighting at the National Stadium on November 3rd.

It was in the preliminaries for the Irish boxing National Elites.

Fighting at 71kg, Dean Walsh is the current holder of the title.

Yesterday, he was fighting Jon McConnell of the Holy Trinity Boxing Club based out of Belfast. It was an important fight and it had all the makings of a serious fight, given that it was a repeat of last year’s National Title final in the same weight class.

Wexford’s Walsh had his hand raised at the end of the fight, winning with a 4-1 decision.

Walsh is now over one of the toughest tests in the competition – and he will be hoping to progress to winning the title, making it his 14th National title win.

Following his win, the Wexford man dedicated the win to his uncle Kevin:

“I want to dedicate my fight last night to my uncle Kevin who’s birthday is today. I know you’re up there Kev having a ball. We miss you so much, Kev. A heartbreak in the family that will never be cured,” he said.

Walsh will fight in the semi-finals of the National Elites next week.
